Ride Quality.....17" or Bigger????

I just purchased a 1999 GS 400, and I love it! However, it has the stock Chrome 16" wheels which I want to get rid of, for both looks and handling....My question is this will my ride suffer substantially when going from the 16's to 17, and how is it on 18's +.............

Thanks......

ride quality can be subjective..i think 18s are the best of both world..look, performance, and good ride quality

i also agree that 18's would b best 4 comfort and ride quality abovestock sizes but if u put 18's and don't drop the car it will like a tank or hummer, and dropping will take away some reg comfort feel that u r used too. so it depends ......

Thanks for all your imput, but if I go with 18's some people say I should lower the car, so I will look better.....and I definately do NOT want to change the suspension. Will there be more wheel gap with the 17 or 18? also what is the offset with the 18's.

I am pretty much looking to retain the stock suspension feel, but enhance road grip and Looks.....

Thanks Again!

You say you don't want to drop the car.. well.. if you don't it will look odd. I would suggest stronly considering L-Tuned suspension. I have 18" wheels and L-Tuned Suspension running with SO-3 Tires and the ride is actually a bit more comfortable then stock, with better handling, and looks fantastic. I would strongly consider it since the comfort is the same and Lexus sponsors L-Tuned.

you could always just upgrade to the stock 17's and then u dont have to touch the suspension. look around a bit get prices and options and then make a decision. but 17's are stock on a gs400 so u dont have to worry about much of a change from the 16's but a better look for the car.

18's

Run the 18 inch with the 245/40 tire and Eibach Pro Kit springs for the best ride quality to performance and looks ratio. Check out...

how much more odd is a 19" gonna look on my car as opposed to the 17" that is on it now? more wheel gap? i don't have l-tuned, but i hear how many people say it will look weird without l-tuned, so i'm getting a little nervous.

Hello Comrades,

Firstly, welcome tirerack and great job on the upgrade garage page. I'm interested in a 18" wheel set up with springs. You mention only springs in you post, what are the pros and cons of not doing the shocks as well. Correct me if I'm wrong, aren't L-Tuned springs Eibach springs?

cheers
