Need recommendation for wheel fix shop
 

Just got back from an alignment shop and I was told that my HRE 547 front wheel is bent!! I guess I was really not carefully driving around in the SF bay area and I have overestimated the strength of forged wheels. He told me that I need to get it straightened out, and then replace both of my front tires before aligning the 4 wheels.

Can anyone in the Bay area recommend a shop that fixes a bent wheel? Thanks in advance.

HRE charges $225 for inner piece, $250 for outer piece, and $80 labor. They will replace everyone of the nut&bolts on the wheel, though. It will take more than 1 week, so I am looking for a faster and cheaper alternative.

Try Pacific Rims Inc. in Pittsburg Ca. They specialize in that and chrome plating. (800) 928-6746. They're prices are fair.

Just a bit of warning. I sent a wheel to Pacific Rims through a body shop for some curb rash. They sanded the whole wheel down, which surprised me. Then they could not match the paint so they has the body shop do it. The body shop did a shabby job of it. I don't know about Pacific Rims' painting abilities since they did not do mine. On top of it, they lost my metal valve stem and cap.

On the plus side, however :

1. They were professional when I talked to them directly.
2. I called 2 "Lexus certified" body shops and they both use Pacific Rims.
3. They agreed to pay for a new valve stem and to have my tires remounted with the new stem. I have the L-Tuned wheels so I had to get the stems from Lexus. These stems are also mounted from inside the wheel so that no rubber is showing at all, i.e. it is not just a cover you put on top of the rubber stem.

I've decided to have the Wheels Technique in Campbell fix my rim. They quoted me a price of $220 and a fix time of 1 1/2 weeks. I will report again on the quality of their work after I get it back.

Have you tried contacting HRE? Also, the lips are not forged, the center section is...the lips are spun...the quality shows because you didn't even know it was bent...I too bent my HRE's but I was doing 80MPH and hit a solid crack on the freeway (you know the kind where one concrete plate is lower than the other)...but my car still has NO shimmies, no tire pressure loss, no problems. That's quality.

Oh the other hand, I cracked a 18" cast wheel that had a 40 series tire on it doing 35MPH...and loss tire pressure INSTANTLY...:rolleyes:

Yes, I have contacted HRE, and they have quoted me a price of $225 for the outside piece, and the $250 for the inside piece, plus $80 labor. It would also take about a week to fix it, not including the shipping time.

Since it's the lips that are bent (both inside and outside in my case), I think that HRE would charge me almost $600 to fix it, and that's almost the price of a new HRE rim. I thought I would give Wheel Techniques a try to fix my lips.

I believe that I hit the same type of crack on the Freeway 280, just like what you've described, and I was doing 85+ (I think...I will not incriminate myself), and not just one time, but multiple times. When are they going to fix it up...

So, if I just have a cast wheel, I probably would have crack it, in your opinion.

Quite possibly...I've done it at much lower speeds...

You should try to PM SoCalSC4 and ask him about getting the lips fixed/replaced....he might be able to help you out.
