I was wondering when all of you decide to replace your tires. The following link is from the tirerack and it is definitely worth the watch. I might start replacing at 5/32 but definitely at 4/32.

depends, but I'm not the kind of guy who tries to try to get the last dime out of my tires. Good tires are one of the most important safety feature on the car. It's dangerous to drive on worn tires.


I recall a guy I work with had a NSX which were notorious for wearing out the tires quick. He let me drive the car but it drove like a POS because his tires were bald. Had steel belts showing in places. Talk about being a cheap skate.

New tires are money well spent.

 

I've always just used the built in tire wear indicator. When the tire wear bands are even with the tire tread I start to look for new tires.

I once had bald tires, was in a foot of snow, dead stop at the top of the hill and I with a little hesitation I did make it. Coming down was a different story. Thats when I decided to get new Goodyears.

This is the indicator that the tire is legally worn out and a safety concern if you drive in water. If you drive on dry paved roads the more rubber on the road the better (minimum to zero tread) Race cars have no tread for maximum handling potential then switch to treaded tires if it rains for water dispersment to prevent hydroplaning. You pay alot of money for new tires then have to wait a year or 2 to smooth down the tread to achieve it's best performance capability and quietest ride, why throw away the tire when it is at it's best? I live in So Cal by the way and I try to wear my tires out (threads showing) in September because the rain starts in October in SoCal.

4/32 is when I change. If you don't need wet traction, like your in Phoenix or something then maybe 2/32.
