UX 250h gas gauge accuracy

I'm curious about when the fuel gauge shows empty on the UX 250h. I currently have a CT 200h. It has a 12 gallon gas tank, but the gauge says it's dead empty when there's still 3 gallons in the tank. Range indicator also says 0 miles at that point. I understand it relates to the fuel pump design, and it's better not to let the tank run too low.

Anyway, I saw the UX has just a 10.5 gallon gas tank in the hybrid, and I wondered if it said it was empty after using just 7.5 gallons.

It seems typical of Toyota/Lexus to be very conservative. However, I filled up twice with a stated 5-10 miles remaining and I had about 5-6 liters left or about 1.5 gallons. I think 3 gallons remaining seems odd in your case.

It's normal for a CT. I noticed it when I first got the car and checked the CT forum. Others said the same thing.

Thanks

You know what, you're right. I'm doing my math wrong from metric to US gallons.

I had the CT too and had about 10 or so litres (2.5-3 US gallons) left but it's when my fuel light first came on. It's about the same with the UX though range is not 0 but about 10 or so miles indicated.

I only filled up twice so far and will have to check more closely next time.

When the light comes on, I think it takes about 7 gallons. I'll have to pay attention to when my light comes on and get back to you. I have a 2014. I know for sure when the needle is on E and range shows 0, it takes 9 gallons. It was burned in my memory the first time it got that low, because I was praying to make it to a gas station - and then it only took 9 gallons. Then I double checked the manual to verify it was a 12 gallon tank. I thought the gauge was broken. But others seem to have similar stories.

I filled up yesterday when I hit 0 miles/kms remaining and required exactly 34.9L. That means 5.1L left (or about 1.5 Gallons).

Thanks. Good info. The UX is looking like my first choice to replace the CT.

Nice. If you like the CT, you'll love the UX (smoother, quieter, more powerful, etc)

I forgot to follow up. I filled up when the low fuel light came on in the CT. It took 8.5 gallons.

Someone tested the Prius when it shows 000 range on an empty tank, you have about 50 or so miles to go. For the CT200h/UX (assuming they're both calibrated similarly) you should have a bit less like 40 miles or something.

More like 120. There's 3 gallons left in the CT when it shows 0 range.

I've filled up the UX two more times hitting zero km or near it and it's consistently between 34 and 35 liters (9-9.5 Gallons) so about 1.5 Gallons remain in the tank.

As far as the ct after hitting 0, I personall ran it 100miles past 0 on a regular bases for 5 years. Let the fuel pump cool down before filling up though. Pouring cold gas on a hot fuel pump is a terrible idea.

Good to know. Thanks. I usually fill up before the light comes on.

There is a clear and present problem. This is my first I’m ever dealing with an issue like this and it appears present with only the hybrid models.

You could bring this under lemon law under some states. A few news channel picked up and are reporting on this story. Watch it!!

Of course this won’t stop the sale of MY2020 sales because people don’t know of the problem until they have it. I’m also glad that there is a lawsuit on it now. Toyota already acknowledged this publicly that there is a problem. Moreover, they’ve issued an internal bulletin to the dealers about the gas tank problem.
