ux250h
Does this hybrid system start and stop every stop light like other hybrids such as the jeep i just witnessed at a stoplight, stop then start, thanks

Sort of. It switches to Ev at stoplights. It is not like a car that the engine abruptly shuts off at a light, then restarts when the drivers foot is lifted off the brake. The 250h starts moving on Ev mode, then the engine kicks in when extra power is needed. You do not notice it, it is very smooth and quiet comparatively.

Major difference between a conventional Start/Stop and a Toyota/Lexus hybrid is that nothing is belted
to the motor in the Lexus. Motor off but the A/C keeps coolin' and the electric power steering lets you steer along left turn lane and drive through lanes. The restart is also different, rather than an oversize alternator yanking a belt or a conventional starter working overtime, the Motor/Generator unit simply spins up the IC motor through the planetary drive. |

Yes, a lot of the newer European and American cars do what you describe - start engine noise when your foot lifts off the brake. To me it's annoying as heck. So much for a quiet ride, right? As long as you stick to most Japanese cars, you'll never have this "problem." Gosh I hope Lexus/Toyota never does this.

@macmaster @MX73 If Start/Stop is done well where it is nearly seamless as is automatically the case with the Toyota/Lexus hybrid powerplant, personally I welcome it. My Stinger has the Start/Stop and I am very pleased with it's fairly smooth operation, significantly smoother than the A4 I had. Sure, you hear the engine come on/off but doesn't bother me personally and being stuck in traffic saves me some premium fuel/costs.

The UX200 powertrain is lifted out of the Corolla. Not sure about the Hybrid. I think it maybe lifted from the Corolla or Prius as well. I hope that doesn't put you off. A lot of powertrain components are shared between Toyota and Lexus.
