Default How much sidewall to protect wheels?

I just ordered a set of 18x9.5 Volks, and I’m curious how much sidewall is needed to protect from bending wheels do to potholes. What is your experience?

Id like to run 265/35/18, but that is not much sidewall for streets that are similar to New York City. What sizes do you run and with what results? Please also specify wheel width to consider stretch / bulge.

That's not much sidewall and depends how deep and how hard, fast a pot hole or curb is encountered. 40-45 is a safer sidewall height if there is a combo that has the diameter and width desired.
