Default Factory lug nuts and aftermarket rims

I just got some 18" Rage 5.0 rims. Can I use the same lug nuts that are on the car now that hold the factory rims or do i need another set to accomodate the new rims. I ask this because for my ES300 the guy told me I had to replace the factory nuts with new ones when i got my chrome rims put on.

99% of the time you will need new lugs because of how the wheels are designed. Find out if the wheels use the shank type or if they use conical seat type.

Yep....Letsride is on the money. There are different types of lugs for wheels. Here's a pic on the types.

On my 96 ES, when I went with aftermarket rims, I had to go from the flat type, to the conical type. Also, my new lugs are designed so the end lug wrench fits inside the nut instead of around the nut, so I need to use a female to male adapter on the lug wrench. They're Gorilla brand. On the fifth nut of each wheel, I have a McGard locking nut (same brand as the Lexus locking lugs).

Most likely you need conical NUTS (not the "bolt" nuts that are shown in the photo).

I wouldn't worry about a lock...Rage wheels aren't high the stolen wheel list...besides that, most locks can easily be undone. I've done it myself (for lost keys) many times.
