Default 99 RX300 tire size recommendation (ASAP)

As we know stock size is 225/70-16. I check www.discounttiredirect.com, their option for oversize tire on stock wheels were 235/70-16 and 245/70-16. I'm thinking of 245/70-16 but I check the space on our stock tires and seems we have a little room to play. Anyone installed or tried 235/70-16 and 245/70-16 on their stock wheels without any rubbing?

I had Michelin CTs on my RX300 - the 235/70-16 works fine. Clearance between rear tires and strut is only about 3/8", but no interference. I believe the larger 245/70-16 size will require minimal spacers.

As important, the 235 will fit in the spare tire well; don't know about the 245. Don't forget to change your spare tire, too.

As stated above, 235 will fit barely and the 245 will in most cases require a spacer. I would avoid using a spacer if at all possible.

You WILL need to change the spare as well because you could cause damage to the drivetrain if you had to use the spare tire and it was a different diameter than the rest.

Go for the 235 IMO.

Good luck,

JP

I switched to 235 CTXs and they perform immensely better than the 225 Goodyears. Much less skidding on tight turns at high speed and better feeling over bumps. Yes, 245s need spacers.

Remember, if you are looking at 235 Michelin Cross Terrains in the US they only have a treadwear rating of 420. The 225's have a treadwear rating of 700. That means the 225's will last 1.7 times as long.

I end up buying the Michellin CT 225/70-16 becuase they don't have the 235 in stock and I have to replace the tires and tired of shopping around for the size of tire that I want. It was a good deal for $464 balance and mounted.

Mikey00,

Good point about looking in the U.S. My 235 CTXs have the 700 treadwear here in Mexico. It was more a legal issue that tires sold here must have a certain treadwear for a certain size. However, I paid dearly for them given the taxes.
