Advantages / Disadvantages of Uni-directional tread patterns

In general, what do I need to consider when buying uni-directional tires?

Presently, I am running Firestone Firehawk SZ50's (unidirectional / 16") on my Camry and just love the way they handle. I had a tire guy tell me that Uni's are bad to cup as they wear. True?

I am strongly considering a set for my SC400 in 17" - Anyone have higher mile experience with this tire or with odd wear patterns in uni-directional tires in general?

Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP are among the best Ultra High Performance Summer Tires, including the tread wear.
Check Tirerack's reviews for reference.

Those are excellent tires

The advantage of a directional tread pattern is better wet traction. The disadvantage is that they have to be dismounted to rotate them properly. I can see why you like them.
