Question widest rim size

i was thinking about buying some 18x8.5's for my 95 es300, but i was reading some posts in here from people saying that's too wide. i was wondering what you guys think the largest/widest rim size you could have on an es. oh yeah the offset is +40 so thats fine. could i put them on maybe if i shaved the fender or something? thanks

18x8.5 seems verry large. I have a 97ES3 and I put 18x8 on it, had to use a 3mm wheel spacer in the rear though. What I would do is take it to a wheel shop and ask them if it can be done. GL

18x8.5 +40 will fit the front of the ES well, but the rear will require a 5mm spacer to clear the strut tube.

If you're going to run this set-up with a 225/40-18, you'll need to remove the rear fender arch trim and trim the fender lip about 1/4" (6mm) to accommodate the tire.

For a 'safer' fit, use 18x8 +35 to +40. An 18x8 +40 will clear the rear strut tube AND keep you away from the fender, whereas an 18x8.5 +40 will not.
