I have an older, 2002, RX 300 that I bought used a few years ago. It has about 180k miles on it, and the time has come where it needs a new set of tires.

I believe the current tire size is 225/70 R16

I am in the Houston, TX area, so do not deal with snow, but do deal with water and hot weather. I drive the car about medium use, i.e 1000 or less miles a month, a mix of street and highway, but more street.

The car is parked in the driveway most of the day when not in use, so it gets exposure to a fair amount of sun, I know that needs to be changed.

I would like to get a set of tires that will suit the vehicle well as well as be of good quality.

What do you all recommend? Please.

Michelin Premier LTX. It's the new generation of Michelin SUV tire, better and cheaper than Michelin Latitude Tour (which was replaced by LTX).

Costco has these on their bi-monthly sale for $70 off and free installation

I've never liked any Bridgestone I had except their winter tires. Even those I don't like as well as general altamax arctics.

Hello,

I have a 2002 RX 300 with about 180k miles on it.

I ordered some Pirelli Scorpion Verde A/S Plus tires from a big box retailer in a recent sale.

I paid about $525 in total for a set of 4 after instant rebates and free installation.

They have a 740AA rating with a 10/32 tread depth, and a 65,000 miles mfr limited warranty.

I am still waiting on them to arrive at the store...so I may be able to cancel and get a refund....

Alternatively, I have come across a deal on 4 Cooper CS5 Grand Touring 103T Tires (new) from another big box store, and am wondering whether to go with the Coopers instead??

The Coopers are about $175 cheaper after factoring in installation costs, and seem to have similar or better specs

80,000 mile limited mfr warranty, 11.5/32 tread depth, 780AB rating.

Should I remain with the Pirelli because they are a more reputed brand? and maybe a superior tire?

Or should I opt for the Cooper? and maybe use the approx $175 in savings to get an extra 2 tires to keep as spares?

I would stick with the Pirelli. From the stats they "should perform better in the rain. (slightly)

I discovered years ago that saving a few bucks on tires could end up costing you in the long run. 5-10 feet stopping distance in the rain could save your life, or avoid an accident. The longer the mileage warranty, the harder the tire, the longer the stopping distance, the worst they perform in the rain. For most cases... however I am sure there are some exceptions.

740AA should be a better tire than a 780AB....unless your are strictly looking for longer tread life.....me it's just not worth it.

My car is a 2008 LS 460 with 20,000 miles. I'm looking to replace the oem tires. Does anyone have experience with the Pirelli zero all seasons? Consumer reports rate them quite high.
