Biggest tire size on stock 16" rims
I have a 2002 GS300 and would like to know the largest tire size I can put on the stock 16" rims. I need tires and am not ready to increase wheel size.
Any pro's or con's
Thanks,
Tad

depends
It depends on what you are trying to achieve... the largest "stock" size is 225/55/16. As you go bigger the handling will start to potentially get sloppy as there will be more sidewall to contribute to roll. The stock 16's I believe are 7.5" wide, so you probably don't want to go much more than 225 or 235.

245/50
There are a few people that ran 245/50/16s, me being one of them for a while. They fit on the stock rims, look fat, help fill out the wheel well.
Noticable sidewall roll. Switched to OEM 17s with Michelin Pilots on them and it is really noticeable when you push it on cornering. Much less sidewall roll, faster turn-in response.
Other factor is hydroplaning since they are wider. Get something that handles water or you will be floating more often. Other factor is, for my tastes anyway, you have to run the 245s at a higher pressure, like 36 or even 40 to keep them from feeling really mushy.
I tried the Yoko AVS db, then Conti ExtremeContacts in this size. Liked them both for the money, but was looking at an all season and didn't know anyone that splurged for Pilot A/S for feedback.
BTW -245/50/16 have exactly the same rolling diameter as the stock 225/55s.

I have an idea
The largest size I recommend on the stock wheels is 235/55 16. This size is the same overall diameter as the stock size. A wider size will in general perform better and provide a more aggressive stance. There is an H Rated Kumho in that size that's pretty good...
