Default TIRE WEAR w/ PICS!! Please help!

Hey guys,

I went to check my tires today using the Penny test. I am running 295/35/19 tires in the rear and they are Michelin Pilot sport.

IN the following pic below I noticed that the BLUE area just covers up to Lincolns forehead.(penny test is done upside down using Lincolns head). I am infering that I will need to replace this tire pretty soon as I do not want to see Lincolns whole head meaning I would put myself in danger..

In the RED area, it goes to Lincolns Neck region.

Is it normal for the middle region of the tire to acquire more wear compared to the mid, outside area? Is this Normal wear? Do you guys think the low profile of my tires (295/35)causes this problem ? thanks alot.

yeah, man, its no secret many cars have their tires wear on the inside much faster than the outside

so a search of forum titles for "wear" or something similar and a huge thread should come up, talking all about it

your tire is wearing right in the middle of the tire itself? or is it wearing more on the inside (medial) side of the tire as opposed to the outside (lateral) side?

If it's wearing right in the middle of the tire, maybe you have too much pressure. If it's wearing on the inside more than the outside, it might be camber issues.

What he said. Over-inflating causes your tires to wear faster in the middle and under-inflating causes outer wear.

i would suggest you to keep it at ~38psi when tyres are cold. if you are running 42 cold, it might be a tad too high..the again, you do not want to under inflate too as it is often the cause of wheel bend when driving over bad roads

I'd say that's too high - drop it to 36-38 cold.

GS300 with a 295? What width wheel? Could that be any issue?

Hey guys,

Thanks for the tips so far. I am going to let out some air till it hits 39 PSI. My front tires are 245/35/19 and the rear is 295/35/19.

Do you guys think it's okay if I have the same amount of PSI in the front and rear tires, which is 39 PSI?

My rims are Carlssons and the front are 19X8.5 and the rears are 19X10. I am attached a pic below.

You sure fronts aren't 245/40 or the rears 295/30? If they're both 35 series the rears are a LOT taller than the fronts - is that what you wanted?

Hi,

That is correct,245/35 and 295/35. That's how it came when I bought the car.. I do notice that the rear is a bit taller then the front which is correct because the width of the rim in the back is 10 and the front is 8.5 so therefore the difference is 1.5 inches.
