Stupid Question
Just when I htink I have asked the most stupid question possible I think of another one. But here goes. My tires are 225/60 R16. If I want to buy some new rims for my car does this mean I need 16 inch Rims? And will any 16" Rims work or do I need special lugnut specs? That is what is throwing me off. I know the lug nuts are spaced differently for different Rims and didn't know how to tell if all 16" Rims work or do I need another Spec number and hunt for Rims that are 16" with Lug Nut Spacing blah blah? It is a 93 LS 400 with stock rims.
thanks for the help

Here's a breakdown - lugnut spacing = what we call the "bolt pattern".
For the LS, GS and SC this value is 5 x 114.3 or what the industry calls 5 x 4.5.
The number 5 indicates how many lugs there are, the 114.3 is the spacing in mm of them.
So a civic would be 4 x 100, a Benz or Bimmer 5 x 120, an Escalade 6 x 120 and so on.
Tire size
The first number is the width section of the tire - for example, 225/40/18
225 - width in mm
40 - sidewall height (low profile)
18 - diameter of the wheel in inches
As you go up in diameter, the sidewall may go down in number, while the width will increase. For instance, the car stock may use 205/60/15, and in an 18" diameter go up to 225/40/18 or in 19" 235/35/19.
These are just rough estimates, but that is being done to maintain the overall diameter of the wheel to keep the speedometer, odometer correct and maintain the vehicle properly. Too high or low will throw the speedo and odo off considerably, and risk getting a ticket or accident.
Hope this helps....
