Default Wheel gurus. I need your wisdom for the ES 300.

I promised the ES 300 folks I would finish hooking up the ES 300 and since I know now (experimenting with the GS) I'd DO IT RIGHT!!! Now, there is not much for the ES but I do want it to basically look like these Jhttps://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75813DM ESs. My goal is to have the ES 300 looking like one of the standards on ClubLexus.

My wheel tire problem is what should I put on the ES? For instance, would Volks or SSRs look silly on a FWD ES 300 tuned for luxury? I really like lips, are lips cool on a FWD car? I know NOT staggered. I had some chrome 16" splits back in the day and am partial to keeping splits. Like SSR GT-1s. I did add OEM sized cross drilled rotors all around (no I am not paining the calipers red, lol) I know I will be buying quality rims, I just don't want to put say "gunmetal" wheels on a non sporty car. Feel me?

Also, the car would be what I drive to work and give the GS a break. I am leaning towards 17s instead of 18s. But I don't have a big commute anyway. The car will be lowered 1" so the 17s should be fine.

BTW, it's a manual (I always throw that in there).
So:
1. Are lips okay on a FWD car?
2. Are sport tuned wheel companies okay for a FWD luxury car?
3. Should I get the ES 300 painted 1 color (all pearl white) instead of the gray 2-tone, making the wheels look better?
4. Any suggestions?

1sick,

the ES, aka Windom in japan is a FF(front engine and fwd car)..yes, the lips will be smaller, but still good though..if you opt for 18s or even smaller, i would suggest a more solid, thicker spoke wheel, for more "mass" in appearence

1Sick, we share many of the same view points about the ES. Mine is a '99 and 2-toned(vintage red pearl/maroon). I don't like spoked or tuner wheels on it.(rolling the factory rims). I would not repaint it solid unless it needs it. I like the luxury look of the 2-tone. I think a big faced rim like a Lowenhart LD-1 (or less expensive- Helo Euro) would complement the car. I even like the Ice Metal 888(which I'm considering). And some lip is better than none on the rim. You've got the sports/luxury appeal in your GS, so why not preserve the entry level luxury appeal of the ES & keep it classy- unless you of course want to make it sporty- which to me is a longshot! Good luck, I'm sure you'll make a wise decision.

the second one is not too far off from the stock platinum edition style.
i do like dish style rims but I've yet to see one that fits on the ES. you might get some ideas from the japanese guys w/ the fixed up windoms. if it were me, i'd rock the platinum edition lexus rims.

edit: hey this is my 2000th post!!

Hey,

I'm think my wheels for sale may be a little wide for the ES. They are Chrome Lowenhart BR5's 19x8.5 +45 offset. Can anyone confirm?

lightbeing: 19's aren't going to just "plop on" to an ES. so...that's even before the issue of it being too wide or not.

Hmm, those 19x8.5s are too big. 18x8.5s are an issue.

I am not big on the fat spokes. Sorry ya'll. Wow 2000 posts MeZoom!!

19's don't fit on an ES? Really? That's odd. They fit on many Toyota's. They fit on IS's. I just figured they would fit on the ES. But I'm pretty sure they are too wide, anyways.

No 19s fit, but that width would make it rough. Besides, my ES is a 92. I am sure it would fit easily on the larger 2003 model.
