Question Michelin Tire Huge Price Increases in Past 6 Months

Why has Michelin had such huge multiple price increases in the past 6 months? I know Michelin has highly rated tires, but at some point their increased profits will be defeated by declining sales.

For example 235/45R18 94V Primacy MXM4 tires have gone from $170 in December, 2014, then to $209 in February, 2015, then to $220 in March, and now to $232 in May. That is a 30% price increase over a period of just 6 months!

Is anyone else troubled and confused by the huge price increases for Michelin tires?

I noticed that too when I was looking for Super Sports for my other car. I still bought them but they were atleast $250 more than the last time I looked in December! Crazy increase for just a few months.

Yep, that's about the same sizable increase I've noticed too. I was hoping that a Tire Rack Rep would chime-in and explain why.

I would be happy to provide in answer, but in this instance I don't have one. One of the biggest influences in tire pricing is the raw material that goes into their construction. If petroleum, rubber, silica, etc. were expensive when they were manufacturing the tires that are on the market currently, that would increase the current retail price, but I'm not sure if that is the case. We're not included in the "why" as to any company's tire pricing. That information would be considering proprietary to the decision makers within Michelin. Sorry I can't be of more assistance in this one.
