2IS AWD - Continental Extremecontact DWS vs Pilot Sport A/S 3?
So i need new tires, have narrowed it down to these 2 choices for my IS250AWD. The DWS are $100 cheaper, so i'm leaning towards them, any recommendations?
i have never used pilot sports but i can tell you that you cannot go wrong with DWS's. It is the best all season tire i have ever used. Here are my pros and cons. of DWS's.
Pros
-Quiet tires
-Best traction for A/S's (imo) in dry and wet conditions
-long thread life, with proper air pressure and alignment ive seen some people go as high as 30-50k miles
-decent in snow as far as AS's
-100 cheaper
Cons
-side walls are kinda of weak
-after 20k miles traction in the snow begins to diminish
I have DWS. It performs ok on dry and bad in rain. It does last forever. It still look brand new after 10k miles lol. I'm a lot happier with the Hankook v12 which offers more traction both dry and wet.
I read reviews on tirerack and some even claimed Pilot Sport A/S perform better than some summer tires on dry. I'm going to try it out soon when I run out on the DWS.
Yeah I don't like the DWS during a moderate/heavy downpour. Exciting and scary lol. Light rain is good. But maybe it's just time to replace my front ones. Great when they're fresh. They're at 50k+ and mostly inner wear.
had both.Preferred the Michelin's. Better wear, and also 'clean up' better..The Conti's never looked good (sidewall wise) after cleaning and protectant...
Hankook v12. I have them on my IS and GS. Excellent grip in dry and good in the wet.
Same. After using Hankook v12, all the high performance all season tires no matter what brands seem to suck. I regretted getting the DWS because it sucks in rain, and it sucks even more in autocross/track compared to the Hankook v12. DWS sidewall is very fat and not too good looking.
DWS however is very comfortable and quiet on daily cruising though but it is not made for aggressive driving.

To the OP- It depends what your priorities are and how you're using them. The Pilot Sport A/S 3 almost has summer-tire levels of dry grip and handling. In order to provide that level of handling, it gives up some ride comfort, and it definitely suffers in winter traction. If you want your car to handle the best it can, but still have some capability in the winter, I would go with the Michelin. If you are looking for a more comfortable ride and need something that is very capable in the winter, I would go with the Extreme Contact DWS. Thanks for all the replies guys. I think the pics of the DWS above look great, thanks for posting. I have stock 17" so i dont think the V12's are an option. I think i'm going with the DWS based on ride comfort and tread life. Plus save a few bucks. Thanks again, Tom
