Default My Tire Buying Advice - As Far As Balancing

Hi Folks,

I'm in the market for tires and as a senior citizen, I have lots of experience I want to share.

I am performance minded and drive in and out of the Atlanta area on I-75 everyday. If you are not going 80+mph most of the time you are not optimal if you know what I mean.

I say the above because when it comes to tire balance and vehicle vibration I have The Princess and the Pea syndrome.

If its not balanced correctly even to a minimal degree, I can feel it. I absolutely do not tolerate it.

The advice? Find a shop who has a Load Force Balancing (LFB) machine and do business there. Here is a link to find one in your area. http://bit.ly/1tmJG9k

I know a shop that has nothing but LFB machines. Many shops have the standard and a single LFB for the problem cases.

I always insist on LFB at point of sale. There is no coming back if the dealership and operator are honest. They can determine the balance weight up to 1/10 of an ounce and they do not have to guess about rotating the tire on the rim and it will tell them exactly where to position it.

I have ridden in many a vehicle other than my own that shook and cannot believe how the owners ignore it.

I have been through the mill with shops that do not give a darn and hope you do not either.
I come back with the complaint and they roll their eyes and do it again and come back again and get the finger.

Why would they not just get in the vehicle and see for themselves? Because they don't care and know already they will have to either replace the tire of break them down and rotate and/or both.

Yes LFB can cost a little more but its worth it.

2therock, thank you for your post.

I agree that a load force balance is a superior balance. Here at Tire Rack, we refer to it as 'Road Force' balance and is the only method of balancing we perform.

You can also search our installers with these machines on our website:
