Default Offset help....8.5" wheel

Hey Guys,

I am looking to purchase a set of 20" Lowenharts that are 8.5" all around and have a 45 offset. The tires that are on the wheels are 255/35 and according to the owner, they were originally on a Lexus 430 model and then on his 1999 GS400.

Here's the problem, the front wheels along the inner lip were scored. The owner stated it was due to a bolt on the inner part of the spring/shock set up.

If I run 235/35's in the front will the "scoring" be eliminated. Also what should be the offset margin that would be safe. I do plan on lowering the vehicle 1.25" in the near future.

The wheels will be going on a 98 GS300 (hopefully)

Thank You

Uh, I have no idea where you found a 235/35-20... 245/35-20 is the smallest according to what I know. Who is making the 235/30-20?

If the wheel is scored, changing the tire won't help (nor will lowering the car). Was the tire rubbing, or is it really the wheel? If the wheel has significant scrapes on inside of the rim, the structural integrity has been compromised.

The +45 is pretty far inboard (more than 1/4" more inboard than we make our wheels), I suspect the wheels were rubbing on the sway bars when the wheels were turned lock-to-lock- they should do the same on your GS unless you run a 3mm or 5mm spacer in the front.

Default Scoring

My mistake.

The rim itself is perfectly fine. The tire is what is scored and it is along the inside top of the tire. It is definitely rubbing against "something". Is running a spacer a bad idea? The seller wsa not to sure if that was the correct offset or not. I will definitely have this confirmed prior to making a purchase.

If the spacer is safe, what spacer would be recommended?
