17" vs 18"
Hey everyone I'm new to this forum and this is my FIRST post. I bought my 99 GS400 (blue) back in April 99 and to this day I still love my car! Anyway, I put 17" Oz wheels and Dunlop SP Sport 9000 tires when I bought the car. Today, however, I'm seriously wanting to L-Tune the car. My question is about the tires - has anyone experienced going from 17 to 18 (or higher) wheels? What did you think as far as "ride" was concerned. I don't tend to go past 18" as I'd like to keep some of the "luxury" in the car ride. The 17's are acceptable and I can certainly hear the whine of my tires. But the 18's look better - especially with L-Tune. But what I want to know from you all is if any of you went to larger tires and then thought - hmmmm, although the cornering is cool, the ride itself kinda sucks..... What's your thoughts on larger tires and "comfort ride"?

Welcome Rondo! I'm moving your post to the wheels forum where the wheel experts can help you out.
I moved from a 17 factory GS wheel to an 18 aftermarket.
In short - not much difference in ride quality between the two, but there is more as you move up from 18 to a 19 or 20. A 'little' stiffer ride, but IMO not much more road feel or handling improvement. I still think my GS handled a wee bit better with 17's (and same suspension setup) than it does with the 18's.
BUT as you mentioned, larger wheels definitely look better and fill in the huge wheelwells on the GS.
Good luck,
D

I didn't notice any difference in ride quality from 17s to 18s. From 16s to 17s yes.
