Default Test Drive: Primacy MXV4, Pilot Sport A/S Plus, Turanza Serenity Plus, RE970A/S

Here it is, at long last.

Got to test drive these tires late last year, but haven't been able to write a long enough post reviewing them until now.

I've driven all 4 and their predecessors over the years in real world conditions and they are all great tires, for sure. All of them are quiet, last reasonable amounts of time for their respective classes, are comfortable, etc. There is very little to distinguish between them in these, because they really are all that good.

However, when it comes to dry/wet handling performance, Bridgestone has Michelin beat, easily.

Let me preface these videos by saying that all tires used were off the shelf tires and were relatively new with some break in done prior. Air pressures were meticulously maintained and all tires were the same size. The Primacy MXV4 was 1 speed rating higher than the Serenity Plus, the Pilot Sport A/S Plus was the same speed rating as the RE970A/S. The track was slightly damp all day, the water truck would wet the track prior to each session.

As you will see, the highest speed I attained was with the RE970A/S and, when driving with it, I was EASILY able to catch up to cars with other tires on them. I would consider myself a little better than the average driver, having participated in many events like this as well as a few autocrosses in a variety of cars.

The one thing I did notice, when inspecting the tires after the event was the fact that outside shoulder wear on the R/F tire was most prevalent on the two Michelin tires (actually the Pilot Sport A/S Plus and Serenity Plus were similar) and was almost non existent on the RE970. Quick note about lap times - they aren't accurate, so don't pay attention to them, and thanks to Teri-Anne for being my ride along buddy, she got a little beat up in the back!

Happy to answer any questions regarding anything I missed.
