A question about tires!
I recently replaced the tires on the GS and M5 and noticed something on both sets.
On the M5, I removed the Yokohama S.Drives and replaced them with Michelin PS2's. Same size exactly ( 255/35/20 fronts and 285/30/20 rears).
But I noticed that the sidewalls on the Michelins are smaller. Basically, the tire looks stretched to an extent that the edges of my wheel lips are sticking out.
Same with the Falken 452's which were installed instead of the Yokohamas on the GS.
So how do I know the size of the sidewalls on the tires before buying them?
Some tires with exact same sizes have stretched sidewalls compared to others. How do I know?

Certain tires and brands seem to run wider than others, based on the same size specification... It doesn't mean its a different size, it just means it is shaped differently...
I have noticed in the past that Yokohamas seem to run wider than almost every other tire out there - its not really the width, but the shape of the shoulder and sidewall...
Aside from experience, there is no way to really tell...

I understand that you had a problem with the S.drives, but other than that which set of tires do you like better? I have had my S.drives for almost three years and 46k miles and still some meat left. It is that time to replace soon though.

It was just bad luck for me! I've had S.Drives on my M5 for 2 years with no problems!
As far as tires are concerned, I have to give my thumbs up to Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's, I recently got a set in 20" for my newly acquired 997 Turbo and they are awesome to say the least! I cannot believe how good these tires are!!!!!
