There are at least 10 different versions of Bridgestone Potenza. Some are great, some are garbage.
The Conti DWS is a probably the best snow performing A/S tire (still not as good as a winter tire though) and its great in the wet as well. You sacrifice dry handling though. Another thing to consider is that it is somewhat new and not a lot of people have put high miles on them.

Most of the Potenza's are awesome - RE050, RE960, but, actually, I can't think of one Potenza that doesn't do exactly what it is advertised to do...

Yes, the 960 (and hopefully the new 970 replacement) are very good A/S tires, no denying that. The 760 is a good tire as well. I don't have much knowledge of the RE-11, RE-070, or the S-0x series, but they seem to be well liked by Tirerack reviewers.

Well, lets see, I wouldn't put RE92, 010, 011, 030, and 040 on my car no matter how cheap they were. The RE050 varieties are marginal in my opinion. Good steering feel, good grip, but short lived, and not that good in the wet; overpriced as well. I think there are other options in that category that are cheaper and perform better. G-019 are too loud.

The rest of the list you had up there is pretty much only built in certain sizes as they were OE applications - they were a spec tire built to the vehicle manufacturers wants and needs... The RE92 is actually a great touring/performance tire well suited for cars like Camry's and Altima's... It gets a bad rep just like the Michelin MXV4 does because people don't take care of them, but both of those tires are great when maintained properly...

RE050 - you mean the stock tire on a Ferrari Enzo? I drove them side by side with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's and couldn't tell the difference... They worked great for me in wet weather...

I would never expect max performance tires to last more than 15-25k miles... I got 25k out of mine and were perfectly absolutely happy... Never had an issue with wet weather performance, even when worn...
I realize that as well, but, when the Enzo was released, it was the absolute fastest road car you could buy, don't you think they would put the absolute best tire they could... We all know tires make all the difference when it comes to handling...
Bridgestones are pricey, no doubt, just as Michelins... But, between the two, they are the best out there... Do some smaller companies make competing tires that are maybe a little better value, sure, but, in this specific question, the Potenza RE960A/S would be the closest competing tire to the Continental DWS, and it does a better job across the board...
BTW, my experience isn't based on TR reviews, it is mostly based upon actual driving experiences, and seeing tires on a daily basis on customers cars... I've also been to my fair share of performance driving events specifically geared towards tire comparisons...

25k I would have been happy. 15k of non-aggressive driving was too short IMO. Regarding the Enzo, that came out in ~2002. Don't you think tire technology has come a long way in the last 9 years? The RE050 may have been the best thing on the roads in the early 2000's, but in 2011, there are better choices.
My original post was really just trying to get the OP to specify which Potenza he was considering.
BTW, I base my opinions on real driving as well. I won't say I've driven every tire out there, but I have driven on most of the popular ones.
