its like this in every industry. a cheaper replacement follows. the customer decides what its worth. its simple economics.

its like bose complaining they dont sell as many units as pioneer. its a different market altogether. people buying knockoffs were never going to buy bbs to begin with.

if infact ronal buys them out its NO problem, ronal is a huge and well respected company, they manufacture carlsson wheels and many AMG wheels too.

Replicas aren't the reason they are going bankrupt, ugly new designs are. People know quality when they see them and are willing to spend the money but ugly is ugly and regardless if the wheels are made of titanium encrusted in diamonds, it will still be an ugly pile of titanium encrusted diamonds.

If Ronal buys them out, that would be great since Ronal has a huge euro fan base already and their wheels are dope.

Just curious, but which BBS wheels are 'ugly'?

Replicas are the reason why these companies are going bankrupt. Replicas are just that, a replication of the original and if people are buying the knockoff version, then that must mean they don't have issues with the looks. In fact the design is what made them want to buy a set of replicas in the first place, but without the premium price.

Their new designs, go look at them. The RS, RK, LM's etc are all classic and beautiful but their new designs are horrible. That's why people keep buying the same used RS's and rebarreling them or repainting the face.

There are replicas for Work, Volks and even Racing Harts but I don't see them in bankruptcy.

case in point:

Even though beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, I don't think that particular BBS is ugly. BBS makes a lot of wheels and only a few of them may not live up to the standards of the LM, but the rest of the lineup has been virtually unchanged for the past few years, even before the bankruptcy deal.

Works may not file for bankruptcy, but you can be very sure they aren't profiting like they use to.

^^^^ I think the majority of people that buy replicas can't afford the real wheel. They choose to get the "look" of the real wheel for less. The quality is nowhere near the same and people are ok with that. People that really want the quality and real deal will buy the high end wheels regardless.

Not profiting as much is not the same as bankruptcy. It could lead to it but its not the same

Of course it's not the same as bankruptcy, but the trend follows. It just happens that BBS lost a lot more than Works did, but the knockoff effect is still the same. Works has plenty more ugly wheels than BBS does anyways. I don't have an issue with people buying knockoffs because it's their money and they can spend it however they want. Some of my closer friends have them because they cannot afford the authentic stuff, but you can't ignore the fact that had knockoff companies ceased to exist, people would be saving up money for the real deal.

There are knock-offs for everything, yet not everyone is filing for bankruptcy. It's not the companies making replicas fault. There is a demand for it and they are merely supplying it. Competition is good for business anyways, it forces companies to step their game up. Those that don't get left behind.

Damn sad to see bbs (potentially) go. But to be honest, I only like there classic mesh design rim (bbs lms) and that's about it. I just think they need to step up their game in product design. as others have stated, bbs's other rims aren't that attractive and look very generic.

Obviously it's not the knockoff companies' fault because it wasn't their intent to put the originators out of business. It's the trend that leads to the downfall of a company. There is no way for BBS to 'step their game up' without upping the cost. Designing and manufacturing wheels to the highest standards cost a lot of money so it can't be a win-win for BBS. You say it's the looks that don't sell, and I say it's because of the knockoffs. It's a big gray area because there is no definite answer as to why things happened the way they did for BBS.

Sadly the business needs to be better managed.
