which is more safe... redrill or adapters?
i was curious... which is more safe? i saw a set of rims but they dont fit for my bolt pattern. i often see someone doing either a adapter kit or redrilled rims. the rims have a cap so the redrill can be hidden. what are the pro and cons to both redrilling and adapters. thanks

Thats a pretty big redrill gap if your pattern is 5x114.3. My friend got this 5x112 (benz) pattern redrilled to 5x114.4 with no problems. Make sure you go to a reputable shop. I hear some storys such as wheels wobbling like crazy at higher speeds.
Heres a sc that has 5x114.3 to 5x120 wheel adapter/spacer on some Bmw M6wheels. Be sure to have hubcentric spacer and torque them all down to oem lug torque spec.

Um, no... adapters are never 100% safe to use - they add one more failure point and they also add stress to the hub...
however, if someone redrills a wheel properly, the old holes are filled in, new holes are drilled and you can most likely not tell the difference... a welded area is just as strong as the original space, so there will be no strength issues, again, so long as done properly...
the examples others gave above are no examples of why you shouldn't have a wheel redrilled, they are reasons of why you should go somewhere reputable...
