Default Looking for wheels? Here’s an idea (a long one) …

I’m been doing some research on wheels – will replace my oem chrome 17’s soon. I’ve spent a lot of time looking back over previous threads/posts and checking out websites for pictures of what’s available. I’ve looked at over 40 brands (only Lexus fitments) … and still going … IT WOBBLES THE MIND.

As part of the research, I’ve noted that the resident experts/owners pretty much agree on which wheels are quality wheels and which ones are not. Although which design looks good is subjective, some other aspects like build quality, finish, price, weight, etc. are more easily compared. I’ve compiled a list of wheel manufacturers and divided them into broad groups, “Quality” and “Other” (I’m being PC here). Personally, I won’t consider a wheel on the “other” list.

I figure that others (especially newbies) could benefit from the collective wisdom of CL members. But, before anyone should take a list like this and use it as the “wheel bible”, it needs to be subjected to peer review.

I invite anyone with real knowledge about a wheel’s “ranking” offer an opinion. Are the wheels ranked correctly? If not, yell out. Are there other Lexus options that aren’t represented and should be included? Additionally, any other suggestions to improve and make the list more beneficial will be appreciated by the membership.

My personal thanks to the many unnamed individuals whose opinions are represented in the list and special thanks to: manaray. Gs4will, Wheel Kinetics, an GlobeCLK for helping many CL’ers, me included. Note that the lists are in alphabetical order.
I'll edit from time to time to include new rankings.

The “quality” group:

ADVAN/yokohama
Allstadt
Auto Couture
Azev
BBS
Blitz
Brabus
Dronell
Enkei
Fabulous
Fikse
HRE
Kinesis
Lorinser
Lowenhart
Lsportline
Manaray
Moda
Momo
OZ Racing
RacingHart
Rays
Rexaz
SSR
Versus
Volkracing
Wald
Work
Weds
Zauber
ZEIT/BIM/Bridgestone

And the others:
ADR
Giovanna
Kaizer
Katana Racing
Kinesis
Konig
Lecs
Niche
Velox
Zenetti

And finally, some that need ranking:
ADR
Antera
Arelli
Axis
Dazz
Elite
ICW
Koky
Lexani
Neeper
Mille-Miglia
Omni

I know a few here:

Katana = bad
Lorinser = ok, pricy
Momo = ok, not bad.
OZ Racing = good
Velox = bad bad bad.

this is a good idea and start.... how about we take it further and catagorise them into factors like prices and styles(spokes, dish, mesh and fins), so those who are saving for new "shoes" know what they are aiming for

btw, garnet, glad you like some of my old ideas..and how about adding ADVAN/yokohama, PIAA, ZEIT/BIM/Bridgestone..just a few that came to my mind

Well that pretty much covers it!

Coming up with a list with pictures (like what GT Autosports has) would be great but it's pretty time consuming...hmmm, we'll have to see if we can get some dedicated CL space for this...

Ethan, what do you think? A wheels reference page with just pictures and available sizes (diameter only...any more detail and it would be a CAREER for someone to keep it up to date)

This is why you have a wheel forum sponsor.. I would be happy to do this. Actually, I've been working on this project for some time with many different cars, but I can put the Lexus version on the fast track.

And Kinesis is certainally good quality! (though very ugly, good quality Did I say that?

Default Confused?????

GS4 – appreciate the additions but (forgive my ignorance) regarding the ADVAN/yokohama and ZEIT/BIM/Bridgestone wheels you mention – does the “/” indicate that they are manufactured by the same company? Should they be listed as a single mfg.? I’ll edit them in as soon as I know the right way to identify them – thanks!

Default NEW SHOES

This is a great idea. Also it would be helpful to know the weight of the wheel. The manufacturing process like cast or forged and sizes.

Thats it great idea we should do the same thing for tires. This will help all new comers to the Lexus community.

ClubLexus WILL have its own wheel encyclopedia

It is headed by the man himself, the one and only, the only person that you will get heat from if you purchase knockoffs...Manaray.

By the end of April, HOPEFULLY, I will get it up and going. Soon, Manaray can fill it in. All credit(s) will be given where it is due.
