Default Install at discount tires.

Do we really need to get the tpms replacement kit from discount tires ? Every time we get new tires? they are like 8 dollars a tire? I m not sure because i got my tires replaced from them last year and they never mentioned this. I got both my back replaced and didnt get this done and they hold air in just fine..? any thoughts?

The tires guys seems to try an add on alot of stuff on the sale...

The car manual states to use the refurbish kits.
Just wait, the TPMS only last ~10 years maybe less and you can not replace the batteries. Have to replace the sensor, oh and you have to have lexus reprogram the new ones. Great huh..

yea.. i know it sucks. I heard its expensive as well. But the part that discount tire changes is part of the sensor it looks to be the valve stem. I thought all this was covered but they told me that i would need to pay 8 dollars for each tire.. What is your guys take on this?

what needs replacing is the washer, the o-ring and a couple other things but its not really necessary at all. i wouldnt see that those parts would fail too quickly.
i used to bust tires for a job and its not necessary imo

as with any sealing washer, o-ring, or seal, it's a good idea to replace anytime it is taken apart and put back together...

the TPMS should be removed to remove and reinstall the tire to protect them and prevent breakage upon removal - especially with lower profile tires...

removal of tpms = replacement of grommets and such...

the alternative is that you run the risk of ruining a perfectly new tire because of a slow air leakage from the grommets you didn't replace...

I've seen it happen... what you should do, is ask to see the old grommets when they take yours apart... you will see a completely smashed rubber grommet - not gonna do it's job...

I was a service manager for 8 years, I've seen it all... and "tire busters" don't typically get to deal with the unhappy customer, so you don't always see the little things we do to make them happy... I recall taking care of a customer that was at another store that didn't replace the grommets... needless to say, they got about 10 miles away and had two flat tires...
