Do 2002 IS300 rims fit?
I was wondering if the stock rims of a 2002 IS300 with Dunlop Sport 9000 215x45xZR17 5x4.5 bolt pattern, would fit my '92 SC300? Any help is appreciated.

could I put wider tires on it, maybe 235's instead of the stock 215's without it messing up something? I thought the IS and the GS had the same style rims?

The IS wheels are only 7" or 7.5" wide...the stock GS wheel is 8" I think...so putting a 235 on a stock GS wheel is OK, but on a IS wheel, it's pushing it...it'll look "bubbled"...

245's are NOT a good idea.

The rim size minimum is for the tire to CORRECTLY seat so that if you hit a sizable curb or pothole you do not end up like a Ford Exploder. Now.... could it fit... well hey..I can put a 315 on that rim if you don't care to be safe. I have DUCT TAPE.
I would stay at a 235max unless of course you think your local tire store knows MORE than Yokohama themselves

Taken from Tirerack Specs
Taken right from the Tirerack spec sheet on the PZero Rosso
Tire Size | Rim Size Range | Optimum Rim Size
235/45YR17 _94Y _ 7.5-9" 8"
245/40ZR17 _91Y _ _ 8-9.5" 8"
255/40ZR17 _94Z _ _ 8-10" 8.5"
I don't know if the spacing worked right, but the general idea is that even 235 is too big for a 7" rim.
sportythief, maybe that works for you, but I'd be a little worried about giving out my opinion on something when "experts" that do this everyday claim otherwise.
I don't claim to be an expert, but clearly the Tirerack has proven that it is an expert in this field, as I'm sure the data they provide comes from the manufacturer's themselves, and they clearly are experts.

Johnny is right, you should stop at 225/45-17 on the 17x7 wheels of the IS. A 245 on a 7" is WAY outside of the design parameters of the tire. Whil it may physically work, there are issues mounting the tire, and there surely are squirm issues from the sidewalls being so pinched (especially on a relatively low-profile tire).
On other thing nobody brought up: if memory serves, the SCs originally came with 16x7.5 225/55-16s. Putting a 17x7 +50 IS wheel on the car maintains the offset fine, but actually sucks the wheels inboard 1/4" away from the fender.
The SCs already have woefully inset stock wheels, I can't imagine pulling them inboard even further than stock looks good! I'd rather stay with the stock 16s than go narrower with 17s.
You're driving a Lexus: do it right or stay stock...

reversal of position
After reading the posts from Johnny Mo and SoCalSC4, I have realized that I should not have posted my original comments. As such, I have deleted them. True, just b/c it 'works' does not mean it's safe. I certainly wouldnt want anyone to do the same if it means putting their lives in jeopardy. I figured that since the wheels were shipped with 245's already mounted on them, the seller must know what he's doing. But that is not always the case. Anyway, thanks for bringing the problem to my attention guys.
