Default 225/40 vs 235/35

Is there a difference between 225/40 vs 235/35?

I am looking to get tires for my wheels. I will be running 18x8 fr. 18x9 rr. I am trying to get that equal look from the front and rear tires. Either it be stretch or square. I am just looking for advice.

My options would be:

fr.
205/40
215/40
215/35

rr.
225/40
235/40
235/35(rare and expensive!!)

Thanks in advanced

225/40-18 and 245/35-18 would be the closest... 235/35-18 would be quite a bit shorter

is this for an IS300? I'd run 235/40-18 and 245/40-18 or if you wanted wider in the back, 265/35-18 would be the same diameter as 235/40...

^^^Thanks for the link, it helped a lot. To bad it didnt have width of the wheel, for a staggered setup. That would change the height of the tire dramatically.

Please explain how the width of the wheel has anything to do with the height of the tire...

A tire has a steel belted tread ply - this steel belt can neither expand nor contract with regards to the wheel width... I used to know guys putting 315's on 8" wide wheels and still the same diameter... the reverse also applies - a narrow tire on a wide wheel still has the same diameter / circumference...

they may appear different, but I guarantee its the same...

So your saying, 215/40 on a 8" wide will be the same height as 215/40 on a 9" wide? If it was possible to fit a 215/40 on a 9"

yup... now, as far as appearance, the tire that is stretched more will appear shorter because the sidewall is at such an angle...
