What tire would you suggest for my 20" set-up
Hello,
So Ive been peicing together my ride and have my wheels (custom 20's 20x8.5/10) and suspension (tein cs) picked out now I need input on my tires. I know these brands arent the best, but I couldnt find any other matching brands that carry the sizes I want. 235/35 frot and 275/30 rear which give me the same rolling diameter and sidewall. The four companies that offer them are Nankang, Nitto 555, Kumho ecsta spt, and General UHP. So far reasearch says the nitto's are noisey, and the generals are too. the nankangs are the chapest, and the kumho's although not the best could be the choice. Any ideas on my options....

I had a couple sets of Kumho's on my old car, I was satisfied with them although I don't push my tires anywhere near their limits so I can't comment on how they handle near their limits.
If you're just looking for a decent tire to roll around on, I think the Kumho's would be a good choice. I don't have any experience with the others so I can't comment on how they'd compare to the others listed.

Good info kyle, I am kinda leaning towards the kumho's but the nittos are still in the running. Anyone out there got any experience with the nitto 555's, from what I hear they can get a little noisy.
Any nitto owners out there?

I had Nitto 555s and they were fine. I did not push the car too much. I did not take notice of the noise because it was my first set of 20s. There was a little more noise but I just attributed to being part of riding on low profile tires. It certainly was not loud enough to bug me, but then our tolerance levels could be different.
Then again, I have not driven my car for almost 4 years so my memory can be spotty. I run Pzero Neros on another car (245/30/20 & 285/25/20) and they seem OK too. Again, tolerances and driving styles may vary.

Whats happening Jay? I have Yokohama S.drive 245/35/20 on 9 inch front and 275/30/20 on 10.5 inch rear on my 99 LS400. The Yoko's I have now are decent tires and are pretty inexpensive. To give you an idea of how smooth they are, I got my rims/tires installed 3 days before my megan coilovers and they were about 95% as smooth as my stock tires. They are a little noisier than stock. From what I have read the Falken fk452's are another good choice, and are pretty inexpensive. The Nitto invo are more expensive but have heard/read nothing but good things about them. Lastly the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta is supposed to be realy good. I have read a few reviews with people that have had both the vredestein's and the invo's and perfered the vredestein's. The good thing is they are cheaper than the Invo's and can be had for a little more than the S.drives. Hope this helps you buddy.

Thanks J three, it does help. Unfortunatly I dont want to run a 235/30 up front, and the 235/35 & 275/30 only comes in a few matching brands, like Nitto, General, Kuhmo, and Nankang. So far I am leaning towards the Nitto's and Kuhmo's. Price wise the Kuhmo's are a little cheaper, but I would rather pay the difference if it means a better ride (noise/comfort)...I still have a few more weeks before I buy so I'll keep researching and hopefully a few more cl memebrs jump in on this...

Hey Jay, would'nt the 235/35 give you pretty much the same sidewall height as a 245/30 on an 8.5 width since the 235 will be slightly stretched thus flattening out the 235? Just a suggestion to increase your choices.

I think the 245/30 is about a quater inch smaller than the 235/35, not much of a difference but soemthing Im takin into consideration. Another reason I dont want 245/30 is becuase the proper matching rear tire is 285/25/20 from what Ive read...super rubberband!! Anyone out there on 245/30's who can chime in...do you regret getting such a skinny tire?
