New Disc Brake Rotor Question - 94 LS400
1994 LS400 - 300,000 miles - I need to replace my front and rear rotors and saw several sets advertised on Ebay. Can anyone tell me what is the main difference in drive and performance of the standard OEM Rotors versus those that are drilled/slotted and advertised by most on EBAY ($200.00 for a full set of 4 with ceramic pads) and why I would or would not want to use the drilled/slot rotors.
Mine have not been replaced in approx. 150,000 miles and are warped by a small amount, can feel the vibrations when stopping or slowing at high speeds and have replaced the pads about 20K miles ago.
Thanks for your information and advice

the problem with the cheap ebay rotors is that they do not use a lot of the technology that goes into the design of an OEM or OEM equivalent rotor...
an OEM rotor may have one or many different patterns for the venting, as well as utilize certain materials and composites that a cheaper replacement rotor might not... some of the cheaper rotors use straight vanes, whereas the OEM rotors typically use a curved or multi faceted pattern for the venting... this subtle difference that you might not even be able to see can make the difference between a rotor that overheats and warps quickly and one that does not, or, one that resonates and squeaks and squeals versus one that does not...
Now, keep in mind, I don't think all ebay rotors are cheap - there are indeed some good deals on quality rotors there, but, for the most part, what I've seen there is typically junk... I have had friends buy stuff for me to install for them, and certain pads don't have correct recesses, are missing correct hardware, do not fit properly, so on and so forth...
