Time for new tires (is250awd)
Hi,
My 07 is250awd, with the stock Dunlop tires, seems to be needing new rubber. The car/tires only have like 18000km (less then 12000 miles for the non-metric folks). This is the 3rd winter for these tires and I notice winter driving is not as good as the past 2 winters. It seems like awfully low mileage to need new tires. Are the stock Dunlops that bad or is it more a matter of time than mileage. I've only had the car for like 2.25yrs.
Prices up here in the north are not cheap. Looking on Tirerack I see three kinds. Bridgestone Potenza RE960, Goodyear Eagle F1, and Yokohama Avid W4S (in descending order of price). Are the Yoko's any good?
Thanks

Depending on driving habits and maintenance, I've seen the OE Dunlops wear out around there... Keep in mind they also might not be worn out, but simply worn down, and when a tire loses some of it's tread depth, everything else about it turns bad as well, namely inclement weather performance goes to crap...
If you are truly looking for a tire that can drive in all 4 seasons, the only one out of the group that you mentioned that will do you right is the RE960's... they are truly an awesome all around tire, and come with a 40k mile warranty too... The Eagle F1 A/S seems to be getting some decent reviews as well, I know very little about the Yokohamas, though typically they are a middle of the road tire - middle of the road price, middle of the road performance...

It's a tough choice. I don't drive a lot. Not sure I need the best in an ultra high performance AS tire. Not that I would get them but do you rate the stock Dunlops lower that the Yokahoma's?
Thanks

I tested the Goodyear and they are pretty decent but the wet traction was weak IMO, the Yoko's have a longer tread life then most but the 960's are the best performance a/s tire on the market. They have the best performance and ride quality and a decent tread life.
