Hi all,

We're talking a 1993 LS 400 with coming up on 180K miles here. Previously had new Bridgestone tires mounted (from Tire Rack), mounted by Davenport Motor in Plano, TX and had an alignment done. After about two years, noted severe feathering on front tires along outer edges on both front tires.

Ordered new set of Conti Extreme Contacts (also Tire Rack), again mounted by Davenport and with a fresh alignment. This was about a year ago. The two front tires are again showing feathering--same symptoms. Three Davenport techs (they are great guys, BTW) looked over the front end, and really only detected just a hint of movement on the left front tie rod. They discussed among themselves whether the shocks could be causing it, but didn't come to a concensus on that.

I decided to wait and do some research here before just replacing parts. Would be interested if any of you first gen owners have experienced similar, and if so how you cured it.

don't own a LS, but from my past experiences, the feathering has been caused by worn out shocks...

which way is the feathering occuring? If the tire treads are smooth as you move your hand inward then it is an excessive toe in condition. If it's smooth as you move your hand out then it's an excessive toe out. How many miles were put on the current tires before you noticed the feathering?

I'm placing my bet on anything that is causing the contact patch to jump around and not stay smooth and consistent on the road.
