Default Can't balance GS wheels?

I replaced the stock 17" wheels (17"x7", +45 offset, 5-114.3) that came on my '07 Camry SE with a set of 17" GS "take-off" wheels from lexus-parts.com (17 x 7.5 inches, 5-114.3, et- 35 mm, 27.35 lbs). I re-used the Toyo Proxes 215/55/17 tires. The independent shop that normally balances these same wheels on my '06 GS with NO PROBLEM says he can't balance these wheels! He's tried 3 times and they still cause the steering wheel of my Camry to shimmy between 70-80 mph. I didn't actually speak to him, but my wife said he told her they needed a "static" balance. They did swap the TPM's from my stock wheels to these wheels, but my GS300's wheels have these as well, although maybe a different model. Any idea what I need to ask a tire shop in order to find out if they have what it takes to balance these wheels/tires?

THANKS!

Shouldn't be a problem balancing them if they are not bent, check out one of our recommended installers in your area. Preferably one with Hunter equipment.

sounds like you've got a tire with a high spot... a good tire balancer even with out of date equipment can probably spot it, or, someone with a Hunter GSP9700 or 9710 will be able to tell 100%... many times, its just a matter of rotating the tire on the wheel 180 degrees, or some other amount...

If you have to static balance a 17" tire then it must be asking for a lot of weight.

unfortunately, not everyone is as well trained...

I've seen many refer to stick on weights as being static balanced whether they are truly a static or dynamic balance...

proper procedure for a wheel like that would (without seeing it for sure), be a clip on weight on the inside edge, with tape weights as close to the spoke on the barrel of the wheel as possible... this would be a dynamic balance, whereas if there are tape weights right down the middle, it would be a static balance...

I guess I didn't read the intro thoroughly, but, if he truly did a static balance, then there's the vibration source...
