Default 245/40/17's ok on 17x8 inch wheels???

Ok, I did a search with "245/40/17" and gs430, gs400 wheels, but I didn't come up with what I was looking for. I saw a couple of "widest tires" threads, but I'm not looking to go that wide.

I realized 245/40/17's are only slightly(10mm) wider and slightly thinner sidewall compared to the OEM/stock 235/45/17 set up. But before I spend the cash and time, I'd like some feedback(feel, looks, opinions, etc.)

Btw, this is for a 2GS 430 with OEM 17x8 wheels and I plan on lowering the car slightly/about an inch with lowering springs.

Thanks in advance,
- Zishan

You can check the specs on the tire manufacturer's website. For instance the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 in the size you posted will run on 8"-9.5" wide wheels.

Well, I know it will fit, its only 10mm wider.....I'm more interested in feel, ride quality, etc. I don't think it will be noticable. Just wanted to hear from anyone that runs these sizes.

Thanks again,

245/40R17 are designed to fit wheels 8.00 to 9.50" wide. They are a bit short for a GS430, 245/45-17 would be a better fit.

That's probably what I'll go with. I wish the GS400/430's came with 18x8.5 inch wheels from the beginning, since the GS is such a large car.

Thanks for your suggestions...

Hey RI-Lex, would you happen to have pictures of you wheel/tire set up? I just want to make sure it doesn't look too meaty(if that makes sense) mounted on that size wheel? I mean, I don't want it to look like the tires are too fat for that width wheel.
