Default Harsh Ride

I had the stock chrome 17 inch 5 star GS430 wheels on with Continental ContiExtremeContact tires size 235/45/R17. I got tired of the harsh ride going over the bumps, even when the tires were inflated to the proper pressure. Is there another size tire for the stock 17's that match closely the nice Lexus like cushy ride of the stock 16's?

Thanks

So i could go with 225/50/R17 or 235/50/R17 and it will feel more of a cushy ride closer to the 16's? Also, any tire recommendations? The ContiExtremeContacts seem to vibrate everything when they are cold and the car does not ride as smooth. My Lexus tech told me that they road force balanced them, but it is not a good tire for a Lexus. He say's that Michelin is the best bet.

Honestly, you could probably just change to a better quality tire, even without changing tire size, and get a massive improvement in ride quality...

I preach it here all the time, we had more come backs for ride quality issues with the Extreme Contacts than ANY other low profile performance tire... It got to a point where I wouldn't even sell them...

At any rate, put a good Bridgestone or Michelin tire on there and you'll be surprised how much better it'll ride...

Personally though, I'd do some 245/45-17 Bridgestone RE960's or RE050's...
960's being a better ride, and still having the factory Z speed rating, decent tread life, and good all-weather performance..

I agree. Tire brand/model can make all the difference in the world. I'm running Bridgestone Turanza LS-Zs on my stock 17s in 235/45/17, and they ride every bit as nice as my 16s with 225/55/16.

By the way, changing tire size from 235/45/17 to 225/50/17 most likely won't change the ride characteristics all that much. Although you're changing the aspect ratio from 45 to 50, you're also decreasing the width from 235 to 225, so the resulting side wall height will probably be about the same. I don't have the tire size calculator handy, but I bet the overall diameter of the two sizes is about the same.

Ok, so i'll probably stick with the 235/45/R17 but maybe just switch to a better quality tire. I just want to make sure that i get it right this time because i spent about $432 on the Continental's only about 5 months ago. Any suggestions on a great riding all season tire with all around performance that won't break the bank, but will make my GS ride like a "Lexus"? Also, any tire that doesn't make the GS tramline, but stays stable and not going all over the road as well. My Continentals do that, also they flat spot like crazy overnight so when i drive when the tires are cold, the car shakes until they warm up!

Thanks!
