Default Is it dangerous...

to run a some stretch?

Currently I am running 245/30/20 on a 20x8.5 wheel (not stretched at all). I am planning to run 225/30/20 to accomodate my drop.

Is it possible that the tires stretch enough that it will expose only the rim when running over a pothole with this kind of set up? Leaving me with a bent rim?
How about a blowout when hitting a pothole, of course there will be a higher chance but is the chance so high that its dangerous?

Thanks for the input

I currently have a 225/35/19 on a 19x9 and I think it's too much. I am afraid to drive anywhere now. I'd rather shave my fenders than stretch my tires. But for now it seems fine.

This one is running 225/35/19 on 9.5 rears. I'm planning to do this on my rear wheels.

Is it really dangerous?

I currently have 235/35 on a 19x10 (mild strech) and a 275/30 on a 19x12 (massive stretch) and I drive it daily.

a 225 is no problem on a 8.5. Even my old car I carn 235/40 on a 27x9.5 and it was fine and that still more strech than what you're looking at.

All the sizes you guys posted should be fine

Also I've had 255/35 on 18x11 and no issues.

I HAVE 225'S on my 9" front wheels, and it doesn't even expose the lip of the wheel. 225 on an 8.5 will be fine.

Not all tires stretch the same, what brand are you planning to get?

Currently running Falken 452s and will probably buy the same. Have you guys ever hit potholes hard? Once in a while I come across one... maybe I will drive slower when I am slammed.

i guess our roads are pretty good here, combined with my excellent pothole vision that keeps my wheels and tires in good shape...

would a 235/35 on 9s and a 245/45 on 10.5 be too much of a stretch?

I would rather do 225/35 instead of 225/30.
