EBC Brakes for RX-300
Has anyone put EBC rotors and pads on their car. I have a question about the shims.
I purchased a set of EBC rotors (GD 7229)and pads(DP6628) for the 2001 Lexus RX-300. The stock pads have shims that are placed between the caliper piston and the pads - as well as the opposite pads have shim that is also used behind the pads.
I found I could not use these shims and still fit the new pads over your new rotor. I tried not using the shims but the sound I heard just driving around the block and coming to a slow stop seem to indicate that this setup may be right.
Should I be reusing those shims? I appreciate any inputs anyone might have. I tried to contact EBC through their website but no links would work.
TIA

I have used EBC Greenstuffs many, many years ago on my RX300. Lots of dust...for me more than OEM.
As far as the shims, for several years I used no shims on my pads, can't say I noticed much. When I switched recently to Akebono pads, they came with shims and I started using them.
My uncle and I work on cars and we frequently re-use the shims if the new set of pads does not have them.

Ask the people at www.perfectbrakes.com.
FYI, I have EBC Redstuff on my ML350 and they still produce lots of dust. It's less than OEM but still too much for me.

FYI
I use Mintex Red Box pads on my A4 and have very little dust. They are strictly a street pad. The RX is my wifes.

This is a big issue I have with EBC GreenStuff pads. They are really bad. I tried them once and took them off after a while. I couldn't stand the brake dust they produce. I contacted EBC and they weren't much help. They recommended some things that didn't work, most of which are obvious and common sense when doing brakes.
