Question winter tires and rims

Can anyone please suggest what they believe to be the best combination for a winter tire and rim for the IS300.

Is there a factory steel rim (16") that works?

What do you think about Nokian Hakka 1 (205/55R/16) winter tires?

Thanks!

Default I bought a package from TireRack ...

I got 16" Sport Edition Valore wheels with Dunlop Winter Sport M2s. I had these on an Audi A4 Quattro, and loved them. In my climate, I drive on dry pavement most of the winter, but need to be able to handle plowed roads and occasionally roads with a few inches of snow. These tires handle those conditions fine, and I don't feel like I'm giving up a lot to my summer tires when it's dry.

The Nokians seem more winter traction oriented than the Dunlops I'm using. Also, I don't know of any steel wheels that fit over the brakes on the IS 300.

I think Ronal (www.ronalusa.com) has some of the best looking wheels for the IS -- I like the RT and LV. They also feature packages with either Nokian Hakka 1s or Pirelli W210s. BTW, I'm not associated with them, but I've heard good things. My A4 had Ronal wheels as orginal equipment, and I thought they were great.

Default 16" steel rims for the winter that work!

Hi pclowser,

Thanks for the input.

I have decided to go with the Nokian Hakka 1's (205/55R/16) on an OEM Toyota 16" steel rim that works as a replacement for the factory 17" rims. The center hub is correct to the factory rims so there is no mis-alignment or wobble at higher speeds.

I bought the 16" steel rims from Steelcase tires'n'mags inc. (905) 479-8884

(4) 16" 5-spoke steel rims (silver colour), (4) Toyota centre caps and a complete set of wheel nuts.
Cost: $ 319.70 (including tax) (Canadian funds)

I bought the Nokian Hakka 1"s from Wheels Direct (416) 754-0997

(4) Nokian Hakkapeliitta 1 (205/55R/16)
Cost: $ 667.00 (including tax) (Canadian funds)
Installed and balanced $40.00 (Canadian funds)

Total Cost: $1026.70 (Canadian funds) (approx. $ 650.00 US)

Both places carry the rims and tires, but I had to go to two places because of the limited stock of tires at this time.

Have a safe winter driving!

Kiko.
