Default What are the best wheel locks?

My friend just had his 20's stolen and he had locks but they just stripped them. Does anyone know what locks are supposed to be the best? I don't feel safe with my cheapo locks anymore...

McGard is good enough to be used as OEM on many car brands (including Lexus).

30 seconds is all the time it takes me to hammer on a socket and spin off the McGard locks...

1-2 minutes with Gorilla locks...

the only time you are safe is if the wheel has such a small diameter hole for the lug/lock that hammering on an oversized socket is just not a possibility... My brothers Dodge was stolen and they couldn't get the aftermarket 22's off even though he just had splined lugs, no locks at all (the holes for the lugs were barely bigger than the lug) - they didn't have the right key for the spline lugs, but screwed up one wheel trying to hammer on a socket to spin them off - they were unsuccessful on the one, so, it was damaged, but as a whole, he was saved...

If you're that paranoid, put on 5 sets. Make them take 10 minutes and use 20 sockets (at $?? apiece) to steal your wheels.

ah, the sockets are usually reusable (if you have a good set of sockets to start with at least) - if not, yah, they crack

Personally, I use spline drive lugs - unless the thief has the right key with him, he won't waste the time to take all 20 off... if you are really paranoid, two different sets of mcgard/gorilla locks plus the remainder spline drive would definitely stop them... maybe **** them off to the point of screwing up the rest of the car though...

I guess is either your wheels or your car, there are no win-win situation when the thief want something.

mitsuguy...
What size does the LS430 take in the spline lug nuts? (mm x tread size)
Does the type of rim make a difference also? I just bought the 18x8 TRD rims and thinking of getting the spline type now since I read this post.

all lexus are 12x1.5

it depends if the TRD rims use the OEM washer style lug or the standard aftermarket conical.

Gorilla sells them for something like $40/set (splined)
McGard is approx $80 iirc for the SplineDrive.
