Default Type of finish on Lip of Work LS105

Looking to wet sand re-polish the lips on my LS105 ( Silver Face with Polished Lips ).

Does anyone know why type of finish is on the lips? I tried some Mothers Mag & Alum polish on the lip as test and it didn't turn black like it was supposed if there is no clear coat on it.

I looked at the lips and it doesn' look like it has any coating on it, I don't want to sand out the scratches and not be able to polish them.

Thanks in advance for any help...

Ray

That's because the lips have a clear coat on them.

Thanks Exe, but looking at the curb rashed rim, I can't see any type of clear coat, no flaking or anything to indicate clear coat...

I believe some of the WORK wheels have anodized lips. I know that my brother's WORK VS-XX has anodized lips. The luster is slightly different from that of polished wheel.

Does anyone know if regular automotive clear will work on the polished lips after they are redone? Or is there clear anodize, or clear powder coating?

As far as I know, all Work wheels have anodized lip. (But i haven't kept myself up with the latest as they might have come out with new lip finished). Anodized lip is maintainance free as you do not need any aftermarket application to make it stay shine. However, if you ever refinish an anodized lip, the lip is history and it will require constant polish to stay shine.

since i never dealt with polished lips, I will leave that to other experts.

Thanks GS, it looks like anodized since there is no clear coat that I see, also, I bought these about 4 years ago, so it must be anodized.
