Default 245s on stock 17s?

found a decent deal on some winter tires sized 245/45 17. would they fit on the 1999 stock 17 inch wheels?

I'm all for upgrading tire width but why do it on winter tires of all things?

i dont consider it an upgrade. from what i've read the GS is not safe to drive in snow/ice with regular all season tires. im just shopping for winter tires and found a [used] set of winter tires for a good price. the only thing is the extra 10mm on tire width. beggars cant be choosers...

I ran 245/45/17 on the stock 17's for years. They're no problem. The only thing is that the tire is not only 10mm wider, it's a bit larger in circumference too. Very slight speedo difference, not to worry.

Yes winter tires are the way to go. It makes a huge difference to whether you can move at all, vs. being able to drive around reasonably. I swap mine off every November thru March.

Best way to do it is to go to your tire manufacturer's website and get the data for your tire. They will tell you the recommended range of rim sizes for your tire size.
