Default 45 series versus 40 series?

Anyone run the 245/45/18's versus the stock 245/40/18? How do you like them? How does it affect the ride? How does it affect the car warranty? How do they work with the standard spare since they are larger and would have fewer rev's per mile?

Car will be slower from the line as you are changing the overall gear ratio by going to larger tires. If memory serves it will feel like a 7hp loss.
Ride should be ever so slightly better given that the swap is for the same make/model tire. Most would not notice I would think.

perhaps this is for some other reason but i went from 245/40/18 to 275/35/19 (bigger diameter) in the rears and the acceleration improved.

if anything it's the wheels being lighter.

I would think that the ride would be improved since the hight of the sidewall was increased? But don't know how it effects the handling? Anyone have them on their SC430???

the ride will improve just like lee said but personally i don't think the improvement would be significant (if same brand / model of tire).

The ride should be more cushier due to extra sidewall.

I may go with the 45 set up on my next set of tires, just hope it doesn't rub. It may look chunky but I like the extra cushion.
Besides, I can't go that fast on my 300 anyway

The LS430 with the 18's uses 245/45 btw.

and the new setup will make it even slower?

the ls430 uses bigger tires coz' of the size i think. dunno, i can understand doing fat setup for 19s, but for 18s, dont' think it's much gain, and most of the time imho it's defeating your 18" wheels. just my 2 cents

I guess I don't understand what you are saying? Can you go into more detail?

well the whole idea of you asking about the size is that the 45 profile will give you more sidewall than 40 right?

what i was trying to say is that the 245/40/18 already has quite a bit of sidewall already for a reasonably comfortable ride. if you are inclined to get 245/45/18 for the even taller sidewall and more cushion, imho might as well look into 17s.

Thanks, I guess if they are using 245/40/18's on the new LS460 then they must be OK for a sport luxury car. Now many miles do you think I will get out of my PZero's Nero M&S rated tires if I rotate every 5K miles and I drive like an old man?

no idea about that, i have had pzero nero (just that), not the m&s. the pzero nero wore pretty nice

about the ls460, you sure they use 245/40/18? i thought they use 245/45/18 if i remember correctly from the driving event this past weekend. 245/40/18 is what they use on the sc430. on the LS they always have larger diameter setup from factory
