If I change my 40 series tires to 45 or 50 series will I have a smoother ride? And will it raise the car a little? It rides kinda rough ride.

you can change from 40 to 45, ride will improve a bit but wont' be dramatic imho, coz' the current one is already pretty tall (if you stay with same brand and model)
imho you should look into getting better tires. getting the ride brand and model could make night and day difference on the ride quality
