I am looking for the quietest and most comfortable tire… any recommendations? I have had a couple of people tell me the Pilot Sport PS2 is quite, however not available in 245/45R18.

Got 15.5K on my factory dunlop sport 5000. Probably get about another 1000 miles and they will be done.

What replacements did you wind up with? I have another thread open asking for tire options and nothing so far. It seems 245/45 18 is hard to shop for. It's either the extreme performance tires, or the really average standard touring tires. I'm just looking for something quiet.

Continental ContiExtremeContact I ran them on my LS and they were great riding and very quite.

I run the same thing here in NJ. According to the sticky up top, they rank these tires pretty well too.

Just happened upon my reply and your replies while doing a search on ContiExtremeContact. Thanks for your timely replies. I discovered this tire while tirelessly (heh) searching for 245/45 18s. It's impossible to find anything between extreme performance and grandpa tires. In UHP All season, the #1 960AS hasn't been released yet, the Pilot A/S is too expensive at $270/tire, Lexus owners rate the Avon M550 low due to flatspotting and vibration, and the Pirelli Neros are also out of stock. For toruing, the Michelin MXM4 isn't rated that well, and there is a Contental tire that is H rated, and the Bridgestone isn't worth mentioning.

I just don't want so much of a hay wagon ride any more. That may be more to do with the Bilsteins and H&Rs than anything else. But I don't think the Dunlop Direzzas are helping at all.

Are the ContiExtremeContact really that quiet? I'm really looking for a quiet tire.

I don't care about quietness. I care about traction and seasonal performance.

I have the Continental on 20's and BFG's on 18's, so I'm sure I really can't compare the 2 properly.

I didn't think I cared that much about quiet either, until I owned my Dunlop Direzzas. My car turns into a low pitch tuning fork when I drive. It's insane.

I don't mind a little "white noise" from the treads, but I cannot stand another set of tires that vibrate and drone. Have you experienced the flat spotting issue that other's have with your set? I'm tempted to just get them and try them during the 30 day test drive.

I've had great experience with the BFG KWD2's. They were quiet, held traction, and decently priced. Of course they are summer performance tires though. Hold in the rain kinda ok, but I'm not sure about ice/snow.

I had them on my Supra.

No BFGs in 245/45 18. There is the BFG KDWS in 235/50 18. At $79 a tire, they're a steal, but reviews were mixed and I am worried the sidewall will look fat compared to 245/45 18 (an extra .6" in diameter).

I'm just had a look at the ContiProContact Touring All Season. They got pretty good reviews, with the excpetion of a few who think they're not durable or have poor snow traction. They are appealing as they are a more standard tire (and hopefully have superior ride), but are only H-rated. I guess it's not often that I go above 130MPH. What happens if I do? Explode?

Thanks for your input. There seems to be no perfect tire, but the ContiExtremeContact seem well-like by the Lexus reviewers and seem to have a nice combination of performance and comfort. I think I will try them out on their 30 day test drive. If they work out, I will religiously rotate them front left to rear right to minimize wear and noise. I have to beleive they will be better than my Direzzas which vibrated from day one.

Took a chance on the Avon 550 M/S for a steal of a price locally, will see how they work out and let the board know. Most of the many reviews for it online are over the moon positive for quietness and ride comfort, but we'll see.

What steered me away from the M550s was all of the Lexus owner reviewers complaining of flatspotting and vibrations. It seems like it may happen with the ContiExtremeContact as well, but maybe to a lesser extent. Like I said, no perfect tire exists and you never really know until the tire is mounted on your vehicle. Good thing is, both have 30-day test drives.
