I just bought certified 02 sc430 few weeks ago from the dealer and I already have nail stuck on my runflat rear tire. I'm thinking about replacing with conventional tire but I'm not sure what to do about spare. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to tires so here it goes. I have old spare from sc300 (16") wheels that I'm not using. Can I use this as a spare? or will this cause major damage due to different in size 18" vs 16". I'm pretty sure that sc300 wheel will fit. Isn't spare donut smaller than regular tire? I'll be carrying spare during long trips as other members suggested. I can rely on AAA or Lexus for tow if I get flat during normal commute.
Also, anybody bought from Costco? I could save few bucks but wondering if they will mess up the sensors during the install.

I just bought an '02 as well. No tire problems except the back ones are down to minimal tread. Next week I'm having conventional tires put on due to the ride. I've purchased a spare tire kit for the car. Do a search in this forum for 'spare tire kit' as there's a lot of info here about it. The kit includes mounting hardware for the trunk and the proper wheel as well.

Regarding messing up the tire sensors, I talked to the tire dealer in my area who is ordering my tires, and he assured me there should be no problem with them. On the other hand I called another 'discount type' dealer in my area who told me that if I switched off the runflats I would need to by new wheels as well. I say go to a reputable dealer and spend a few more bucks to have it done right. Good luck.

dlrshort, thanks for your advice. I was hoping to save $$ on the spare kit. Bascially carrying full spare only on long trips. I did search on the spare kit and it looks like it will cost $600+ for the kit.
