es300 will 18x8 and 18x9 work?
Hi guys, I've got my heart set on some wheels that are 18x8 in the front and 18x9 in the rear with 40mm offsets. The car is a 98 es300 and will have coil overs, I plan on rolling the fenders as much as I can of course. I'm pretty new to the whole pimped out wheels game but does anyone with experience know if these wheels work?

I guess you mean why " staggered on a fwd"?
sure you stagger a rwd car................but ,does it really matter? if he's going for looks, I think it will look sweet.
Mr.Sneis, the 18x9+40 might not clear the strut tube, but you can always get some H&R spacers. the rear specs are pretty much all you can do for es.
here is a pic of a ES...... the rear is a 19x8.5+35
and here is another es.... this on sittin on 19x9.5+17
with the right "stretched" tires on this one, it would have looked real good.
and of course a nice drop.

Thanks Gato, looks like I'm going to need spacers for the rears. I've got a pretty decent euro background so there's pretty much no way I'm going to ghetto or rice it out Hopefully if all goes well I can post up my car in a month or two, just gotta get the wheels shipped from "Japan."

I can say for sure the 18x9 +40 will not clear the rear strut tubes. I have tested 18x8.5 +40 and it didn't work - the 18x9 +40 is 6mm more inboard than the 18x8.5 +40 I tested.
For comparison, 18x8.5 +35 is about as close to the rear strut tube as you'd want to be.
Translated to 18x9, the offset would need to be about +29 to clear the tube. These would stick out past the fender a little...
I have run 18x8.5 +35 on these cars, and with 225/40-18 I still had to remove the rear fender arch trim for clearance. If you ran the 18x9 +40 with an 11mm or 12mm spacer, stretched the tires (225/40-18 or better yet 225/35-18) and rolled the crap out of the fenders, it would likely be driveable.
You'll either need a 'bolt-on' type spacer or longer wheel studs to get proper thread engagement for the lug nuts. This is critical!!!!!!!
We want pics when it's done!
