Default Tire brands for front and back

On my GS300 I was advised to get the following tire setup:

245/35/20 - Front
275/30/20 - Rear

Can I get different tire brands for the front and back or does it have to be the same brand? What are the consequences of have front and rear different brands? Thx.

Differnt brand means that the tires will be maade of different materials. This usually results in a difference in traction. Rear tires gripping while front are sliding thru a turn....or the other way around. Temperature also has a great deal to do with how well the tire holds on the road. On a cold day you might have less traction with one set over the other. Thats the only real important difference I can think of. Just make sure you get tires with the same speed rating all the way around. You dont want to go 140 and have the front tires blow out on you.....that could be bad.

Not really a great idea. Besides looking tacky it may cause handling problems. Whats the purpose of the mismatched brands? Find a good deal on two tires?

Paraphrasing the above: Different tires = different coefficients of friction = unpredictability, particularly at the limits. Never mess with mu.

Wow, this is dangerous huh? And there are times when I get new fronts or rear in a different brand, sometimes even running on them for months.

We gotta warn everyone!!

unless you are tracking this car its not going to matter. but if you are running a 20" tire taking it to a track is probably the last thing on your mind. most tires in those sizes are either v or z rated anyhow. if you're getting a deal, do it.

I suppose you could also say the wider tires in the back are likely to hold longer than the slimmer fronts. Having different tires is not so different from that. Again, the issue only arrives at the limits, so as IS_250 says, unless you're on the track it shouldn't matter.

I have 2 different sets also.

Fronts are 245-35-19 Falken 451 and the rears are 285-30-19 Dunlop SP9000.
