Default Need spacer advice

Need some help.. my dad's 93 Camry has some 15" steelies on them and the tires were getting bare - so I suggested that he get a set of 16" tires and use the stock 16s from my GS400 since I was going to upgrade my wheels anyways. Unfortunately, the offset on the rear was too high and there is severe rubbing on the rears. I purchased some 5/16" (8mm) universal spacers from Pep Boys and that temporarily solved the problem. However, now there is a bit of subtle rattle and wobble coming from the rear at normal speeds... which is very noticeable when you have a drink with ice in the cupholder (There are no problems going over bumps though). Searching on the boards, I've learned that this is a common culprit of spacers..

my dad knows nothing about cars, so I'm feeling a bit sheepish at creating this problem.. my options are:

get a set of hubcentric 15mm wheel adapters (not sure if there is enough space, or if it might mess something up with a wider rear in a front wheel drive car?)

eat the cost of the 16" tires and purchase/mount/balance a set of 15s on the stock ones

find a mechanic and maybe they can "center" these on the spacers?

any one have any suggestions? thanks. i'm also not that great with cars, so dumbing it down would be appreciated.
