Default SC430 Tire Replacement Outrage

I've got a 2002 Black SC 430 that has run-crap tires on it with about 75% tread left. The tires are Bridgestone RE040 245ZR18.

Anyway, I went over a pothole on Friday that was awful and 4 hours later a light illuminated on my dash that I had to look up in the manual. Well, the positive is that the tire pressure sensors actually work. The negative is that the front passenger tire was shot from the pothole.

So, I call around to get the tire replaced on Saturday morning. It turns out I could only find one tire store in all of Atlanta that had the tire. They quoted $460 to replace it (incl. labor). I was incredulous, so I called my Lexus dealer. They quoted $430. Long story short, I had the Lexus dealer replace the tire. They also said I needed new brake pads, so on a Sat. morning I blew $700!!

I never thought I would see the day that I went to a dealership to replace a tire...nor did I ever think I would pay over $400 for one tire!! That is crazy. And the tires are awful! And who has heard of over $250 to replace front brake pads! Maybe I'm just not used to the expense of maintaining an expensive car (I've only had it since March), but this is crazy.

I've all but decided that assuming no other tires explode, when the tires need to be replaced, I'm getting Michelin Pilots (non-runflat) and just going to call AAA when I get a flat and get towed.

Has anyone purchased tire insurance and will the insurance cover runflats?

Cool

Unfortunately, welcome to the world of run flats my friend! Many love the technology & never ask before hand what the replacement cost of such newer technology costs. Not personally a run flat fan (not perfected yet), & especially Brisgestone tires. I hope you have better luck down the road & yes I would suggest a real good set of non run flats in the future along with AAA.
